But in 1948, a group of scientists and physicians came together to take action against this condition called arthritis. Perhaps heartened by breakthroughs in medicine, this community of scientists envisioned a day when a cure for arthritis would be discovered and the millions of people with arthritis would no longer suffer. Their actions resulted in the formation of the Arthritis Foundation Knee Society The Knee Society provides knowledge of the knee joint in health and disease. It provides an appropriate educational setting that will maintain the highest level of professional standards in order to promote continuous advancement in professional knowledge and improved treatment of disorders of the knee. International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine ISAKOS advances the worldwide exchange and dissemination of education, research and patient care in arthroscopy, knee surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine. ORS - Orthopaedic Research Society The Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS) was founded in 1954 and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1982. The purposes of the ORS are to promote, support, develop and encourage research in orthopaedic surgery, musculoskeletal diseases, musculoskeletal injuries and disciplines related thereto; to provide, encourage, develop and sponsor educational activities related to the foregoing; and to provide forums for dissemination of knowledge in these fields. The intent of these efforts is to improve the care of patients with musculoskeletal diseases and injuries. The Society has approximately 1,700 members. JBJS - Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery had its origin as the Transactions of the American Orthopedic Association. The first volume of that journal contained the proceedings of the meetings of 1887 and 1888. Volume XVI of the Transactions of the American Orthopedic Association is also Volume I of the American Journal of Orthopedic Surgery. In 1919, when The Journal became the official publication of the British Orthopaedic Association, the word American was dropped from the title and Orthopedic was changed to Orthopaedic. That year's volume, the Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery, became Volume I (new series). The present title, The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, was adopted in 1922. In 1948, A (American) and B (British) volumes were established. The American Volume, which is the senior, allows the British Volume to use the title that we share. The American Orthopaedic Association remained the owner of The Journal until 1954, when an independent non-profit corporation, The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Inc., was established. AJSM - American Journal of Sports Medicine The American Journal of Sports Medicine, founded in 1972, is the official publication of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. The Journal is published eight times annually by Sage Publications. It contains original articles that have undergone peer review. Contact information is available on the Editorial Board page.
